From Thursday 23rd October to Tuesday 4th November 2008 the Genoa Science Festival, for the sixth year in a row, transforms streets, squares, historic buildings and museums of Genoa and Liguria in a great ark of discovery and knowledge with the common theme of Diversity: of technology, mind, languages, life, matter, ideas.
Genoa will be a meeting space among the multiple fields of knowledge, a resource to exploit for new contaminations among disciplines and a motor for the passion for science. A festival for everybody, thanks to the multimedia shows and the performances such as theatre shows, literary adaptations (Voltaire’s Candide), unusual mathematical-show meetings, meanderings between philosophy and technology, music, workshops. Visitors will also be able to touch Science to discover its natural mechanisms and technological applications through interactive lectures, special events (the Soyuz space capsule from Russia), exhibitions.
One of the main issues of the third millennium, the environment and the health of our planet, is also considered as the CO2 emission of the festival will be offset thanks to various forestry interventions.
The Festival was presented in London on Thursday 2nd October 2008 by its President Manuela Arata. Despite the different approach to science and research between Italy and the UK, due to the fact that, according to Manuela Arata, the UK has long-term views whilst Italy has none, the relation Italy-UK is strong and positive, a clear example that science and research unite peoples.
