I wish to ask a question: what is love? I believe any of us can give a definition based on their experiences, stories, that is why love is the sum of all of that, of every story, each different and unique for the people involved. And this is the approach followed by Annalisa Coppolaro in her book “Giochi d’amore e d’infedelta’” (Plays of love and infidelity) to represent love and his partner: infidelity.
Some could turn up their noses: “but aren’t love and infidelity just the opposite?”. In some books they might be, for some theories too, but in reality they are linked phenomenon often intertwined, and it is the subtle border between love and infidelity that Annalisa explores, with unbearable lightness: thirteen tales that right due to their lightness render infidelity more “human”. From the “classic” revenge betrayal with a double surprise, through the infidelity to be considered a life choice which leads to the end of a tired relation and the beginning of the true love, through the “sex only” infidelity because of the distance, which does not undermine love, through the more “normal” infidelity, due to someone’s way of being… but there is also a “pure” love story, almost an appendix story set in the past, and a voyeur story were the man is firstly alone but not for long…
Some will find it too light, but this is the strength of this book. Others will laugh, as they will find themselves far too similar to the characters of the tales… sorry, my phone is ringing… it’s my ex… shall I answer?...
I’d better leave it, or I could be the character of one of the next Annalisa’s tales.
Hello?...
