On the 21st March 2007 the much appreciated villa seat of the Residence of the Italian Embassy in London hosted the official presentation of the Stresa Festival, in the presence of H.E. the Ambassador Giancarlo Aragona, the artistic director Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, the festival’s chairman Engineer Giovanni Medeot, and Dr Bruno Beltrami, managing director of Publieurope, promoter of the event.
At its 46th edition, the festival will take place from the 1st August to the 8th September 2007 in the suggestive setting of Lake Maggiore, preceded by the Easter Concerts on the 1st and 8th April.
The salient elements of the festival were presented by Maestro Noseda himself, who in 2000 accepted the appointment as artistic director with almost irresponsible enthusiasm, and since then has made experimentation and innovation his direction’s signature. The festival emphasises the interaction among different forms of art, with music as the protagonist to which the beauties of the concerts’ venues are placed side by side, and a parallel exhibition of works by the eclectic artist Emilio Tadini. Maestro Noseda stresses quality – calling musicians, singers and conductors of very high level and international fame – but does not shirk courageous choices, by gathering artists who have never met on stage before and dedicating wide space to young talents. The festival, in fact, comprises a competition for young composers, and the Stresa Music Academy has also originated under its aegis, with the aim of sharing – how the Maestro likes to underline – musical emotions and knowledge, which eventually will have to be transmitted to the audience.
The chairman Engineer Medeot has then highlighted the international scope of the festival, and its openness to different musical forms with no constraining ties to specific composers or ages.
The meeting concluded with the presentation by Dr Bruno Beltrami, from Publieurope, of the different options to sponsor and support the festival, with an introduction to the music market and the socio-economic implications of the industry in recent years.
Of particular interest is to note that the classical music market, after a few years of oblivion, is in a constant upward trend, not just in terms of public but also of purchases, mainly thanks to the Internet and the young generations.
