During his official visit to the British capital city, the Italian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Franco Danieli met the press, gathered for the occasion, at the seat of the Italian Embassy in London on Friday 23rd March. The conference touched on very topical subjects, highlighting the general action line undertaken and the major changes that will occur in order to make the consular structures agiler and responding to the needs of the Italians living abroad.

The main novelties will consist in the transfer of the seat of London’s Italian General Consulate – considered inadequate to both users and staff – and in a substantial work of computerisation of the Consulate itself, to make the activity and data management quicker, with the chance to access the services directly on-line.

Inevitable were the comments on the theme of the Italians kidnapped abroad, back from the latest abductions of war reporters, and the reaffirmation of the firm position of Italy on the subject, to which the absolute priority is the safety and rescue of the citizens but also an informative campaign of responsibleness, especially in sight of the imminent summer season.

In the second part of the conference, the Vice Minister met the representatives of the Italian press for the emigration, presenting the current structure of the Italian press abroad and the support granted, once again aimed at the innovation and favourable to the computerisation and the on-line diffusion of information.

Senator Danieli has then confirmed the importance of action on the small day-to-day problems, on the “banal” work that helps the improvement of a network of values and services allowing Italy to relate to foreign countries in the best way.

The meeting concluded with a dinner held at the Centro Scalabrini kindly offered by the Italian General Consulate of London.
