Turnabout for the Made in England population? Well, it might be a bit rash to state that the English people are dropping the beloved pint of beer in favour of a glass of wine, but the certainty is that were very many of them to visit the Wine Show 2006.
From 26th to 19th October 2006, the Business Design Centre opened its doors to a refined fair dedicated to the wine products from all around the world. GIORGIOSTUDIO could not miss the opportunity, so we went to have a look and, armed with a glass, we nosed around the various Italian wine stands.

The first pleasant discovery of our visit was the Ethical Edibles, company that under the direction of Donatella Bernstein imports Italian wines and products, almost exclusively biological and absolutely home-made. As we were explained by Donatella, who moreover periodically organises wine tasting meetings in order to diffuse the art of well-drinking (along with the good food…), the Ethical Edibles is a young company funded on the work of young “social entrepreneurs” – as they like to define themselves – and its commitment does not lie on the commercialisation only of wine, but also on the selection and education to quality wines.
She is not the only one to think this way: in Manuela Fiorani from Cantine Francesco Minini we found an out-and-out supporter of the acquainted-drinking. We found her with nearly no voice, after having spent the whole weekend speaking to anyone happened to approach her stand, offering excellent wine and guiding the attention on less obvious choices. Beyond the greatest names, the invitation of Manuela and of Cantine Minini was especially directed to the discovery of the less famous wines – such as the Sicilian wines – but equally valid, if not superior.
It seems that “education” to wine was indeed the leitmotiv of this fair: guided tours, tasting classes held by renowned wine expert and the possibility to talk directly to the producers were just a part of the educational activities organised by the Wine Show and to which proper places were dedicated within the three exhibition floors.
As the pair wine-art is often present in these events too, the companies Tipico Toscana and Italian Wine Consulting waited at table a very wide choice of wines and local handicrafts products. To reaffirm once again the concept that good wine is art in every respect, Giacomo Acciai from Tipico Toscana also told us about the fair held in Arezzo last September and dedicated to vintage wines.
Noteworthy, finally, the stand of Conti di Buscareto, with excellent wines from Marche, which perhaps do not fully enjoy yet the fame they deserve.
