An intimate atmosphere of 11th October for the warm voice of Angelica Sepe, guest of the Italian Cultural Institute with her Trio for an evening dedicated to the Neapolitan song. Despite the niche genre, the rooms of the Institute were already crowded at the moment the first notes started to resound, and not just a few had to be content with enjoying Angelica’s voice behind the door.
The songs performed were many and pleasant, so that Angelica herself could not help commenting (“Listen how beautiful is this one…”), nor hides the difficulty in deciding the list and the necessity in leaving, reluctantly, out many other pieces.
The evening glided away on the notes of a traditional repertory, and thank to his very enjoyable, which Angelica and her Trio enrich with the sounds “stolen” around the world: under the guidance of her voice and her virtuous musicians the Neapolitan song wears the South American rhythms or the swing atmosphere from the States.
The final was committed to the renowned piece ’O surdato ’nnammurato – The Soldier in Love – paying homage to the great interpretation of Anna Magnani, who was the first to radically change the rhythmic of this song underlining the contradiction between the joyful music and the drama narrated by the lyrics of a soldier to the front speaking to his beloved.
Our singer, nice and loquacious, tried to involve the public inviting it to sing with her, receiving in return just some whisper by the audience a bit too rigid, but also applauses and sincere admiration for an evening by the Italian taste, even for those who have never been in Italy... yet!
